There are two types of this flexible ebike: a step-over and a step-through. I rode the step-through. It’s amazingly light at only 40 pounds, and it rides a lot like a regular hybrid bike. It has a 250-watt hub motor, a 250-watt-hour battery, 9-speed Shimano gears, and hydraulic disc brakes, so it can be used on both city streets and light tracks. It’s a full package with built-in lights, a bell, a rear rack, wheels, and a frame, making it great for your daily journey.

Steph Pearson, one of our reviewers, was amazed and asked, “How did they do this?” This direct-to-consumer electric mountain bike is a great deal at less than $3,000. Most full-suspension bikes cost $15,000. The built-in A100 mid-drive 36-volt motor gives it 250 watts of continuous power and 750 watts of peak power, making it a smooth and reliable helper. It’s great for long commutes because it had a range of 25 miles and was still 70% charged after that.
It weighs 52 pounds so that it might be a bit lighter on difficult tracks, but it rides great on city streets, dirt walks, and roads with lots of potholes. It comes with a lot of useful parts, but none of them are exclusive, so you can easily add more without spending a lot of money. You can get the Aventon Ramblas for a reasonable price and use it for rough journeys.
6. Best Utility Ebike: Specialized Globe Haul ST
The Specialized Globe Haul ST (9/10, Bintoz Recommends) is the light cargo bike I’ve been looking for—a cheap, reliable daily driver that can replace a car. This bike really stands out because it has a strong 700-watt motor and an IPX7-rated battery that can go over 60 miles, which is pretty amazing. It can fit people of different heights, and it’s fun to ride because the controls are easy to understand, and the spinning feels natural. The 20-inch all-terrain wheels are small, easy to turn, and stable on gravel, dirt, and roads.
Specialized works with brands like Fjallraven to make items that look good and can be used in a variety of ways. The only small problems are that it doesn’t have stability, which could be a problem when moving big things, and it doesn’t have a belt drive. For the whole family, though, the high-quality parts and large network of service shops make it a great choice. My husband, I, and our two kids all love going for rides on it.
7. Best Comfy Cruiser: Linus eDutchi
Want an e-bike cruiser that looks good and feels good? Linus, based in Venice, California, makes the Linus eDutchi, which is a fun ride with a retro look. Linus is known for making stylish kids’ bikes, regular bikes, and ebikes. The eDutchi, a class 1 ebike weighing in just a feathery 46 pounds, carries over the same sense of flair.
Everybody can ride the eDutchi thanks to its disc brakes, seven-speed Shimano gear system, 250-watt rear hub motor, and fashionable leather accents. It’s a lot like riding the Electra Loft Go (7/10, Bintoz Recommends), but there are a few important changes. It stands out because of its simple frame design and range of colors that don’t favor one gender over another. It also has a rack on the back, which is great for carrying your market finds. And if you want a bike that looks good and is comfortable, the Linus eDutchi might be it.
8. Best All-Around Ebike: Specialized Turbo Tero X 4.0
If you’re tired of always buying new bikes, the Specialized Turbo Tero X 4.0 could be the answer. This ebike, which got an 8/10 rating on Bintoz’s list of recommended products, is made to handle almost anything. Specialized has turned its famous mountain bike into a capable electric bike with a long, stable frame, wheels that look like mullet tails, and full suspension. It also comes with things that commuters need, like a rack, lights, bumpers, and a bell.
The bike’s 250-watt motor and 730-watt-hour battery may seem like they need to be more powerful, but the Mission Control app and 12-gear shifts make it very flexible. For example, you can use them to save battery life or keep your goal heart rate. The screen tells you to spin at an efficient 80–100 rpm, which helps the battery last longer. It’s not light—it weighs almost 58 pounds—and it’s not cheap—it costs $4,500. The Turbo Tero X 4.0 is the best bike if you want one that can do everything.
9. Best Ebike for Road Racers: Santa Cruz Skitch
The Santa Cruz Skitch is the best choice for road riders who want the best combination of speed and lightness. Bintoz gave this ebike an amazing 9/10, which means it’s great in both speed and style. The carbon fiber frame is very light, and the Fazua 60 motor and 430-watt-hour battery make it even better. Although it’s the lightest electric bike I’ve ever tried, it has much speed for a class 3 bike.
The Skitch has a dropper seat post and a complex SRAM button transmission, which lets you change gears smoothly and without showing any cables. It was a lot of fun to race a Dodge Challenger and get around a motocross track on my test runs.
That being said, the $6,000 price tag might make you think twice about leaving it alone. The Santa Cruz Skitch is a great buy if you have a safe place to store it and a 10-mile journey.
10. Best Cargo Ebike: Xtracycle Stoker
The Xtracycle Stoker is a great choice if you want a backpack ebike that can do a lot of different things, from school runs to camping trips. The Stoker, which is named after the word for the back rider on a tandem bike, is made to fit two people easily. This bag is built to last, so it can easily carry kids, food, camping gear, or even soil bags.
The Stoker comes with basic back footrests and cargo nets that can be expanded. You can add extras like padded rear sets, handles, panniers, and a front rack to make it your own. It can hold up to 400 pounds and has 24-inch wheels for support, so it feels safe even when it’s full. The 630-Wh battery gives you 45 to 60 miles of range, and the Shimano EP8 mid-drive motor helps you pedal up to 400% of the way. If you are shorter, the Xtracycle Swoop might be a good choice. It has a step-through frame and other similar features.
11. Best Affordable Cargo Ebike: Aventon Abound
The Aventon Abound is the best cheap luggage e-bike because it is both flexible and low-cost. As Aventon’s first luggage bike, it can be set up in a number of different ways to meet your needs. If you want to carry kids, the Abound has an extra back seat with a handle. If you need to carry groceries, it has front and rear racks. With a step-through frame, it can fit riders up to 6’3″ tall, so a lot of people can use it.
The Abound has a motor in the rear hub that is connected to a torque monitor. This motor gives you smooth, steady power depending on how hard you pedal. It has a great range of up to 50 miles on a single charge in Eco mode. With all of its weight on it or in Turbo mode, the 720-watt-hour battery still gives it a range of about 20 miles. With its many features and low price, the Aventon Abound is a great choice for a cargo ebike.
12. Best Cargo Ebike for Families: Urban Arrow Family Electric Cargo Bike
When it comes to cargo bikes that are good for families, the Urban Arrow Family is one of the best, especially for people on a budget. The R&M Load used to be my top pick for a Dutch-style front-box cargo bike, but the Urban Arrow Family (8/10, Bintoz Recommends) is a better deal and has the same great features. Even though it doesn’t have suspension, which makes it great for better roads, it makes up for it by being very comfortable and easy to drive.
The Enviolo constantly variable shifters are one of my favorite parts because they let me downshift smoothly even when I’m not moving. This means that you don’t have to worry about shaking and being uncomfortable when changing gears while riding because the bike can help you walk. This feature has even helped me do better on hills than bikes that don’t have cargo racks. The Bosch Performance motor may not be in stock right now, but keep an eye out for units that come with the more powerful Bosch Cargo Line motor for better performance.
13. The Best Micro Ebike: JackRabbit Bike
Micro-mobility is the newest trend in best electric bikes, and the JackRabbit Bike is at the front of the pack. Not only are these small personal cars cheap, but they are also very simple to move and store. Because they are so small, they are very cute.
The JackRabbit stands out from the other microbikes we’ve tried because it weighs only 23 pounds. It’s easy to put together and folds up for the best in space-saving efficiency. It doesn’t have pedals like most e-bikes do, so you won’t have to worry about knee-to-chin crashes. To speed up, you use a thumb throttle. But the JackRabbit can’t do as well as it could because its battery and motor are too small. It only weighed 115 pounds, so when I opened the engine, it only went about ten mph and had a range of about 10 miles. It’s stronger than some other choices, but it’s fun and easy to use, which makes it stand out in the micro-mobility market.
14. Best Folding Ebike: Montague M-E1
When it comes to the best electric bikes that fold up, the Montague M-E1 is my top pick. Traditional folded bikes are often small and heavy, which can make bigger riders like Julian feel a little uncomfortable.
However, the M-E1 has a full-size frame that makes it look and ride like a normal bike. A Shimano mid-drive motor, a comfy seat, and Shimano hydraulic disc brakes are some of the high-quality parts that make it up. The M-E1 is both useful and beautiful. It has built-in lights, bumpers, a battery that can be taken off, and an easy-to-read screen. Julian says he feels confident and comfortable riding it, which makes it a great choice for people who want a folded ebike that looks good and works well.
